Press Release
Bridget Flannery
15th March - 7th April 2007
Bridget Flannery returns to the Cross Gallery for a solo exhibition of new work, opening on the 15th March and running until the 7th April. These new paintings have been the focus of Bridget¹s creativity for most of the last year, making fresh discoveries; derived from the excitement and inspiration she takes from landscapes, memories and the quiet moments experienced in a place.
The elusive and momentary experiences of a place is what lies behind this particular body of work, as Bridget constructs and organises shape and colour and lines and texture to bring into existence something which has been experienced but forgotten. She introduces colour first grey, then tinted grey, powdered whites and then pure colour hot reds, shadowy greens, Quinadrone oranges lying on a textured undertone, providing space for floating colour character in which there are crescendos and diminuendos.
These paintings appear to have a subtle quiet rhythm with pauses; the surface textures do not detract anything from these abstracts, only adding to the brilliance of the placement of the colours.
Bridget is one of Ireland¹s leading female abstract artists and has exhibited internationally and throughout Ireland. Her work can be found in many private and public collections.
